Copyright...
Our time with Ryan went over expectations as we got involved in a lengthy conversation about Copyright as a consequence of our discussions about Streamed Media resources. The (relatively) short version of the story is as follows:
Our time with Ryan went over expectations as we got involved in a lengthy conversation about Copyright as a consequence of our discussions about Streamed Media resources. The (relatively) short version of the story is as follows:
- if no license then must clearly be educational purposes!!!
- not lunchtime, no student council, after school movies, etc.
- definition of educational time must be the same as the distributors
- "it's educational time until you get taken to court" - Ryan Coelho, as quoted
- cover yourself… no one been taken to court… yet!
- really need to purchase both Criterion and ACF
- create a template to put in mailboxes a couple of times a year to be able to report usage
- if using Learn360, reporting is automatic
- ACF… not matter what time shown as long as you can show that it has a direct curricular connection
- hard to get staff to play by the rules... just keep pointing people in the right direction
- be sure your staff are clear that if they are using their own personal accounts (i.e. Netflix)… it's for personal use only
- they do not have copyright permission to show to a class
- i.e. Netflix documentary… if they show it as an educational screening, it makes no difference
- your Netflix license is personal to you for personal viewing
- anything shown in school must be a legally purchased copy for the right reasons
- the person who shows it is at risk of being sued
- be very clear that the TDSB will NOT stand behind said teacher… the teacher will be personally liable
Sharing...
- Library fundamentals (how-tos, tips, tricks): Sharing ideas for keeping your Library hopping... and how to manage your sanity!
- postponed until next meeting...
- Growing a Volunteer Crew: How to get them? How to keep them? What to do with them?
- Fortunately both East and West TL groups had planned to address this issue at the first meeting of the year.
- Also fortunately for us, the East TL group stayed on course... Since we ran out of time to discuss this item at our session, please follow this link to the presentation made to the East TL Group by Lois Lorimer Nunn, ACL at RH King.
- Library Photo Gallery: Physical space ideas... please send pictures!
- Photos are posted on our Photo Gallery webpage (see navigation bar at top of page)
- All TDSB TL's - East and West - are also invited to post to the TDSB Library Spaces Spreadsheet
- Etobicoke School of the Arts... new furniture arrivals... KI chairs, outdoor patio set and some new paint
- Riverdale CI... ongoing renovations/re-organisation of Library space... "Zoom"chairs, couch seating, bars, makerspaces and more... see the total package of changes and upgrades at the Riverdale CI Library News page
- Google Apps for Education (GAFE) Updates: especially TDSB student e-mail addresses
- All students Grades 4 - 12 now have TDSB Student E-mail addresses... including mail tabs on their AW Homepages.
- Students can find their student e-mail address in the "User Information" tab accessible via their "Profile" on their AW Homepage.
- Google Tips and Tricks: Favourite features/tools and more...
- Google Apps and Other Resources: One of the pages at my (Enid's) Professional Resources Edublog. I haven't tried all the new features - there is not time in a day! - but I try to compile information about updates etc. for those who are interested and maybe have time to play with them.
